Glue

Every Czeiszperger Guitar is constructed using traditional hot hide glue.  Hot hide glue has several advantages over more modern glues. The first is that is gets extremely hard when dry. It’s been described as “glass hard or brittle”. Your more modern yellow or white glues do a great job in furniture or general construction but they remain slightly pliable even when dry. The result is a slight damping of the sound in areas like the gluing of braces to the top, the top to the body, or the bridge to the top. Hot hide glue also has the advantage of being infinitely repairable. Because hide glue softens easily with steam and heat, a fretboard or bridge can be removed for repair without damage. In contrast, yellow glue does not soften as easily and is more likely to damage an instrument should it need repair.

The disadvantages of hide glue include a shorter working time for the luthier. The glue must be kept hot and the wood pieces being glued must be warmed. Even then, it must be clamped within a minute or two of application. You can see then that hide glue is impractical for any large production builder. For a custom builder, it is one small advantage that adds up to a great guitar.
